At SFL, early childhood education is about developing the “whole child” and as such our resources take into account a child’s social-emotional, physical, cognitive, language & literacy development and approaches to learning to assist in preparation for school readiness, improve their educational outcomes, and lay the foundation for their life-long success.

We are also committed to growing and empowering ECE professionals! We offer support for practical learning and implementation of beneficial strategies in early childhood program settings, that helps programs:

• aspire to and meet high-quality field standards
• effectively care for and educate young children from birth through PreK
• engage in developmentally appropriate hands-on learning through active play
• offer a family friendly environment
• incorporate cultural sensitivity to meet the needs of diverse groups of children and their families.

We support the work of national and state-level ECE organizations through our participation and sponsorship of  events hosted by them. We stay relevant in the field by hiring working and recently retired early childhood educators to develop, curate, and refine our content and resources. We embrace inclusive learning - all genders; those from diverse backgrounds, cultures and their varied family structures; offering comprehensive professional development.

Staff

Kamna Seth, Senior Director, ECE Initiatives, has over 25 years of hands-on experience in the field of Early Childhood Education working with toddlers & preschool children and in several administrative capacities. Kamna has spearheaded professional development initiatives for early childhood educators over the years. Kamna's experience includes curriculum development, NAEYC Accreditation for early learning programs, quality assurance, and training of early childhood educators. Kamna is a Certified Preschool CLASS observer & trainer and has served as a CDA PD Specialist.

Amy Josephson, Education Manager, ECE Initiatives, has over 20 years of field practice working with children and families in varied settings including schools, hospitals, community recreation centers, parks and the court system. Amy has several years of experience teaching adult students and continues to also serve as an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College. She is also a member of NAEYC and the Early Childhood Education Peer Group for the Virginia Community College System.
